About Isles Career
Our aim is that every Chinese student studying in the United States has a clear bearing, a reference they can trust, and the confidence to act when they make a career choice — rather than being pushed into trial and error by an information gap and by isolation.
Why we are called Isles
Our answer is not to build one more crowded track. It is to offer open ground and an archipelago.
The image of an archipelago means this: you are your own island, with your own space and your own pace for exploring; but you are not alone, because the Isles Guided Program and Isles Network connect everyone into a chain of islands.
We do not manufacture anxiety. AI tools, high-fidelity information, and a safe space in which to test things let us hold that anxiety steady instead, so that a student's own initiative is what drives the exploration.
Why Isles exists
No career education before college
Most Chinese students arrive at university with almost no career education, and therefore without a framework for making an informed decision.
How some industries hire
The nature of the work in professional services such as consulting and investment banking means those firms recruit large numbers of highly motivated, over-qualified new graduates.
A shrinking entry-level market
Knowledge work is increasingly being absorbed by AI, and the market for junior roles is contracting quickly.
These causes are not a short-term phenomenon. For Chinese students they will hold for at least another one or two generations, so the problem will not resolve itself.
What we are not trying to solve
Being clear about the limits matters as much as being clear about the capability. We do not believe we can solve either of the following:
- The oversupply of candidates for highly sought-after jobs such as finance and consulting.
- The wider mismatch between labor supply and demand.
What we can do is help students form their own judgement earlier, and more clearly, within those structural conditions.
